Does your name have any special meaning?
No, it does not. I think you will find that many western names do not but if you look at other cultures there are many where peoples’ names do. For instance, I know a girl in Thailand whose name translates to waterfall and she was given that name because she cried a lot when she was born.
If you could change your name, would you?
It is quite easy to legally change one’s name in Australia and other western nations but I would not do it as it would create too much angst amongst my family. Most of the family would consider it an insult and there would end up being some arguments over it.
Is it easy for you to remember people’s names?
That is something that I have great difficulty with. There have been times when I have met someone days after being introduced to them and I have no recollection of the name. It can be a bit embarrassing. Strangely enough, I am good with faces and as soon as I recognize someone, I can remember a lot about them and our past conversations but perhaps not their name.

How do you feel when people don’t remember your name?
It really does depend on the circumstances and who they are. If I was in a new class, for instance, I would not expect the teacher to instantly remember my name and in most cases when it happens, it is like water off a duck’s back and is not something I am overly concerned about. If a close friend could not recall my name, I might be more concerned about their mental state.
How often do you go to a library?
I don’t go to the library all that often, probably only a few times a year. I tend to do most of my reading online or on my e-reader, so I don’t really have a need to visit the library too frequently.

When was the last time you went to a library?
Hmm, I can’t really remember the exact last time I went to the library. It’s been a while, probably a few months at least.
Did you go to the library when you were a child?
Yeah, I used to go to the library all the time when I was a kid. I loved browsing the shelves and checking out all the different books they had. It was always a special treat to be able to pick out a new book and bring it home to read.

How popular are libraries in your country?
I think libraries are still pretty popular in my country, although I think they might not be as heavily used as they were in the past. With the rise of e-books and online reading, I think fewer people are physically going to the library these days. Still, I think libraries are an important resource and offer a lot of valuable services to communities, so I hope they continue to thrive.
