IELTS SPEAKING INTERVIEW
PART – 1
What is your name?
My name is Devika Sharma.
How may I address you?
I feel glad if you call me Devika.
Where do you come from?
I am dweller of Moga city which is located between Ludhiana and Ferozpur.
Do you do housework at home?
Yes, I do! Even though I could afford domestic help, I prefer to do it on my own. I live by myself in a small, studio apartment so it’s easy enough. Actually, I find housework to be relaxing. When I feel stressed, I like the mindless activity (something which doesn’t require hard thinking) of scrubbing the shower, floors, and kitchen cabinets. I really hate sweeping though! I always miss too many spots.

What housework do you usually do?
All of them! I do dishes, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing the kitchen and bathroom. I usually do a deep clean every two weeks, but keep tidying up during the week. I have a pet peeve (something that really bothers you) of having a clean bathroom, so I generally do that about once a week.
Do you like doing housework?
I like most chores. I’m a neat freak, and I just love seeing my entire house spic and span. The feeling of a clean home makes all that hardwork super satisfying!
Did you do housework when you were a child?
Yes, my parents enforced this. They had a rotation chore assignment chart for the 4 of us children every week. We would earn $5 a week for completing them. If we acted up (misbehave), extra chores would be put on (assigned to) us. If we had a special accomplishment, like straight A’s, we would be off chores for a week.
Do you think that children should do housework?
Absolutely! Even if the parents could hire help instead, it teaches children a sense of responsibility and skill. Also, it helps them to not be spoiled ( a person who has too much). When they learn these skills at a young age, they can carry it into their adulthood and be better homemakers.
Do you think that men and women should share housework?
Without a doubt! I don’t believe in these gender stereotypes of only women doing housework. I believe it is the responsibility of both people. Moreover, when they share the responsibilities, it takes the pressure off both of them. However, if one spouse is working all day and the other is at home, I think the one at home should cover the housework.

Well, it is not uncommon to see people setting New Year resolution with great enthusiasm and excitement, however, most of these turn out to be flop show. I too made a resolution this year and so far, it is going pretty well.
The resolution that I made is to restrict my use of the mobile phone. The fact is that like many others I am too addicted to this device and can’t live without it. This addiction was so bad that I was wasting my precious hours playing games on my smartphone, surfing the internet, using social networking apps and others. I used to keep playing till midnight because of which I was compromising with my study and sleep.

I became a victim of insomnia and my academic performance was badly affected and on my mother’s recommendation, I made the resolution on 1st January this year that I will limit my use of this device and will try to keep it at distance as much as possible. It was not easy at all for the first couple of weeks but now I could easily manage without it.
The best thing is rather than playing on the machine now I join my friends in the playground which helps me to remain physically fit and active. In addition, I switch off my mobile at sharp 9 pm and after studying for some time I hit the pillow. Now, I take a sleep of 8 hours daily which is crucial for my mental health and my academic performance is also improving.
Overall, I am grateful to my mother to help me decide the resolution for this year.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
What are the most common resolutions in your country?
The most common resolutions in my country are about self-improvement. At the start of a new year, people pledge to get up early, go for a walk, or start a new hobby. Most of them also join the gym to lead a healthier routine.
How difficult would it be for you to save money this year?
Saving money this year would be a daunting task, keeping in mind that inflation is rising rapidly. Moreover, I have to buy a few gadgets this year, such as an iPad, a car, and a new laptop. As there would be too many expenses, I would not save much.
How difficult would it be for you to get fit this year?
As I have started practising intermittent fasting, getting fit will not be a challenging task for me. However, it also depends upon my zeal to continue with it. If I stop being consistent, the tables might turn.
