PART – 2 CUE CARD

– What the decision
– How you made your decision
– What the results of the decision were
– Explain why it was difficult to make
SAMPLE ANSWER
We all have to make from time to time. Some decisions are very small such as – what clothes to wear and what food to eat. But some decisions have far reaching effects – such as choosing a career and choosing a life partner. Here I am going to talk about a decision, which was very difficult for me. It was choosing my subjects for Senior Secondary.
After my 10th, I was in a dilemma, whether to go for medical, non-medical, commerce or humanities (Arts) stream. Most of my friends were going for non-medical, but I knew I was not so good at physics. I consulted my parents, but they told me to decide on my own. Then I went to my teacher, MrsPromilla. She was my favourite teacher in school and fortunately lives in my neighbourhood.
She told me to go for commerce or arts, as she knew I was not so good at the sciences. My friends were forcing me to join non-medical, but I took my teachers advice and chose Arts. This decision was very difficult as the whole future depends on this decision. The career is based on subjects of senior secondary.
Now I am very happy. I am doing well in studies and also have time to pursue my hobbies. I am interested in music and dance, so in the evening I have joined dance and music classes.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
1. What skills are necessary when making decisions?
One needs to be able to see the far-reaching consequences of those decisions. Unfortunately, at a young age most people are not mature enough to see that far. So, one should talk to other people who are older and more experienced and take their suggestions.
2. How can people improve their decision-making skills?
People can improve these skills by going out and talking to people and looking at things from their perspective. That way one can come to know different viewpoints and then can make decisions with ease.
3. How do you think computers will change the way people make decisions?
Through computers and internet, people have a wider network of friends. And so, sitting at home, one can know reviews of people on different things and then one can make decisions. For example, once I had to buy a laptop within a specific budget. Reviews on the net helped me to decide which one would be best for me. Finally, I went for Dell laptop.
4. Do parents in India allow their children to make important decisions about the future?
In India, parents have a say in important decisions about the future. Arranged marriages are still very common in which parents decide the life partner for their children.
