PART – 2 CUE CARD

– What it was
– When you watched it
– Who you watched it with
Explain why it was interesting
SAMPLE ANSWER
I watch TV for the news, some reality shows and some soaps. Here, I would like to speak about a story from a TV program, which I found very interesting. This is the story of – we human beings, and our environment. Last month, as I was watching the National Geographic Channel, a Documentary on the climate change was going on.
They were showing the melting of the glaciers and the rising sea levels. It was being presented in such a nice way that I could not change the channel, and kept watching it. They told that global warming is a perfectly natural phenomenon. However, the rate at which it is happening is unnatural. We humans are the cause of it. We are using luxuries; we are cutting trees; we are opening more and more industries and we are buying more and more automobiles. There are billions of people in the world, and global warming is the result of billions of decisions.
We blame the governments for not doing anything, but we ourselves are not playing our part. If billions of people decided to plant a tree each, we can easily slow down the process. The documentary also showed how the Polar Regions are also being affected by global warming. The marine life is also being disturbed. This short video was actually meant to aware the people. I felt very enlightened after watching this short video.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
What are the effects of watching too much TV?
Watching too much TV is not good for both physical and psychological health. Physically it puts a lot of strain on your eyes and sitting all day long and doing no other physical activity leads to diseases like obesity. Secondly it affects your mental health as people become addicted to the content being shown on TV. Having continuous access to quick information, opinions and analysis of everything allows us to stop our critical thinking. In this way we can easily be misinformed and manipulated.
What types of television programs are (most) popular in your country? OR What types of TV programs are popular in your country? OR What types of programs are popular with young people?
In our country Entertainment Television Programs are rated based on a system called TRP, which stands for Television rating Points. As per the latest TRP reports sitcoms like Kapil Sharma Show are topping the charts.
What do you think are the good points and the bad points about TV?
I think TV is one of greatest invention of our times and it certainly has more good points than bad. Some of the good points are that TV is one of the best resources for information today. Watching TV is also a great way to relax after a stressful day. One can also discover the world while sitting in the comfort of their homes. The major bad point is that watching too much of TV is not good for one’s health.
