IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW:-

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Jaswinder Kumar.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Jaswinder.

How often do you read?

As a final year student I spend most of my time on reading, especially textbooks and other reference books that my lecturers recommend in the reading list. I’m also a fan of novels or fictions, but only during summer break that I have time to read them.

Do you have many books at home?

Totally, I’m a bookaholic to be honest. I enjoy going to annual book fairs where they usually run big sales to get lots of books without much worries ‘bout the price. Since my parents are also book-nerds, I think the number of books we have is even enough to open a bookstore.

What kind of people like reading and what kind of people don’t like reading very much?

From my point of view, I think book-nerds are those who prefer putting themselves into the character’s shoe, you know, they wanna interact with the story, the characters on their own way. Some of them love to imagine how the story is supposed to continue while some keep wondering what they would do if the drama suddenly happened in their real life. Those who do not like to read are either too busy with their life that they even can’t remember the characters’ names, or they prefer listening, I mean, they have someone read the story and tell them the ending only.

What colors do you like?

Since my taste always changes, my favorite color at the moment is black. Although I have just bought some black items recently, black surprisingly suits me. It feels like I become more mature and more mysterious when wearing a black dress. And because it’s one of the basic colors, it’s easy to mix and match with other items of different colors and styles.

Do colors affect your mood?

Actually, the converse effect is more suitable for me, especially when it comes to shopping. I don’t think I’d feel happier when I look at a pink-colored shirt or feel pulled-down when I wear a gray cardigan. So no, I don’t think color is related to my feelings inside.

Are colours important to you?

I suppose so. You know, different colours convey different meaning to people. Red represents passion and enthusiasm while green can be energetic. So I always choose the most suitable colours for things.

Were colours important to you when you were a child?

Well, yes, I have several blue clothes when I wear them I tend to feel calmer and more tranquil. I believe that blue is always a fashionable choice for a man’s outfit.

Do you prefer light or dark (or, bright) colours?

If I had to choose between the two, I’ll probably go with dark colours because I believe dark colours represent stability and wisdom, for example I would always choose a dark outfit for my office to highlight my professionalism, whereas light suits are more suitable for the younger generation.

Are there any colours that have a special meaning in your country?

Yes, there are many colours that have a special meaning in my country such as black, which is mysterious. Red means good luck and good fortune in China, when it is New Year, people like to wear red clothes, set red firecrackers off and give red packets of pocket money to children.

What colour would you choose to paint the walls of your room?

I would like to paint my walls light yellow or light blue because light colours convey warmth and are calm to which, in my opinion, are more suitable for the living rooms.

Do you think different types of people like different colours?

Yes, I believe different people have different psychological need for colours. Some need peace of mind, whereas others colours might be more energetic and rebellious.

What’s the most popular color in India?

To be honest, it’s hard to tell, as it totally depends on people’s taste. But I guess it’s my favorite color-black. Black fashion items can be found at clothing shops, since it’s said to be simple yet classy. And electronic devices and household supplies are mostly in black-colored, probably because it doesn’t show dirt and dust.

What’s the different between men and women’s preference on colors?

The difference in color taste can be seen so clearly that most menswear are more basic-colored while women clothes are varied vastly from monotone to color-mixed. In terms of fashion, the color theme for women is absolutely overweight.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe your favourite restaurant.

– Where it is

– What is looks like inside and outside

– What kinds of foods they serve

– And explain what makes this restaurant so special to you and others.

SAMPLE ANSWER:-

I am going to talk about my favourite restaurant. Where it is, what it looks like, the kinds of food it serves and why it is so special to me.

My favourite restaurant is in England! It is actually in the suburbs of the city of Sheffield which is where I live. The restaurant is on a busy street very near to a large park. It is quite a small and hectic place called Jonty’s because Jonty is the name of the person who set up the business.

From the outside, the restaurant doesn’t look very impressive. It has large glass windows at the front, and some benches outside for people to sit on if they are waiting to go in. there used to be a large sign with the name of the restaurant written on it in big letters, but recently they have taken down the sign and not yet replaced it! Inside there are lots of square wooden tables, each with about four chairs around them. The restaurant is on two levels, I prefer to go upstairs to the first floor because there you can sometimes get a window seat and enjoy watching people as they go past in the street outside.

The restaurant serves mainly breakfast and lunch meals. It does really good coffee – I like their latte’s best – and lots of sandwiches, salads and special soups. The restaurant also has a selection of delicious, gooey homemade cakes. However, when I go, I always have the same thing – scrambled egg on wholemeal toast with mushrooms, because that is what I like best!

The restaurant is very special to me and my friends because we meet there every Saturday. On Saturday’s about 500 people go to the local park for 9:00 in the morning to take part in a 5 km run. Afterwards, I like to go to breakfast at Jonty’s with three of my friends. We feel we deserve a big breakfast after our run, and we enjoy catching up with each other’s news over a leisurely meal together.

So if ever you are n Sheffield, I hope you will find Jonty’s and enjoy it as much as I do.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Which are more popular in your country: fast food restaurants or traditional restaurants? Why do you think that is?

Where I live, traditional restaurants are favoured because the people who live here and come to visit want to enjoy the home-cooked food of the Med. They want to try delicious dishes prepared with the local produce. The restaurants here are mainly family-owned, with all of the ingredients used bought on the island. Fast food restaurants do not do very well here, with only one available in the town centre. This is mainly frequented by teenagers, as it is cheap.

Some people say that food in an expensive restaurant is always better than food in a cheap restaurant – would you agree?

Not really, as I think it depends on where you go and who is cooking it. Everyone has their own personal tastes and if you like a place that serves good food at a good price, then it will be very popular. For example, you might visit a fish restaurant right on the beach, which serves deliciously cooked fresh fish with seasonal vegetables. This could be a small taverna with basic decor and a low-cost menu. This might be quite cheap in comparison to some other so-called ‘a la carte’ restaurants, where the food is very expensive, comes in small portions and does not always live up to expectations.

Do you think there will be a greater choice of food available in shops in the future, or will there be less choice?

I think there will continue to be more choice, as the supermarkets seem to be getting bigger and bigger. There is a supermarket next to my parent’s house which is as big as the airport building. The sheer number of products on offer is amazing, they even have employees on roller skates working there, so that they can find what you are looking for and assist you faster.
