What are the harmful effects of smoking?
Smoking is harmful to our health in a number ways. Smoke weakens the muscles of our respiratory system, which affects our breathing process. With prolonged use, smoking can cause cancer in smokers. Moreover, it can lead to impotence in males, and can cause health problems of pregnant women by inhibiting the normal growth of the baby in the womb.
Should the government ban tobacco products? Why?
I strongly favour banning of tobacco products. The government must ban all types of tobacco products. This will bring long-term benefits to the country. We will lead a healthier and more efficient life without tobacco. Some people argue that the government earns revenues in the form of direct and indirect taxes on tobacco products, however, the government also has to spend huge sums of money for the treatment of cancer patients.
Should celebrities endorse tobacco and alcohol products? Justify your answer?
I don’t agree with celebrities endorsing tobacco and liquor products, because celebrities are role models for teenagers and youngsters. The youth is likely to get influenced by celebrity and endorsements, as youngsters are sometimes unable to differentiate the good from the bad. I also assert that celebrities have some moral responsibilities towards the society. Keeping this in mind, they should not misuse their popularity for money, by promoting harmful products.
How do people get into the habit of doing drugs and smoking?
Teenagers and youngsters take up smoking as a thrilling experience. They often try cigarette smoking or narcotics to quench their curiosity. However, many of them then get addicted to these substances. Working professionals take up cigarette smoking for a change or break from their work routine, in the beginning. Later, though, in most cases they get addicted to it.
PART – 2 CUR CARD

You should say
– What you did
– When you did it
– With whom you did it
Why do you think it was unusual or interesting?
SAMPLE ANSWER:-
Recently, I was in Europe on some business, when I tried my hand at Snapchat for the very first time. My daughter had installed the app on my smart phone a while ago and urged me to start using it repeatedly, but I had kept procrastinating.
Now, I had finished with all my meetings in Vienna that evening, and decided to retire early to catch up on lost sleep. But as fate would have it, the effects of jetlag were more powerful than my determination to sleep. My biological clock had not managed to synchronize with the new time zone, and I lay a awake in bed, starting at the ceiling. After an hour and a half like that, I picked up my phone and decided to read some articles online. In the process I noticed the little ghost icon of Snapchat starting back at me, and a certain curiosity made me open it up.
It was 4 am, but before I knew it I had taught myself the ins and outs of the app, and even started using it. I was a pro at inserting filters and sending out snap chats. What I figured out was that this new messaging system was in fact quite sophisticated, and also fun to use. While exploring its features, I didn’t even realize when sleep took over.
It was very unusual for me to use an app like that, because I don’t normally experiment much with messaging services. I am one of the last few to adopt a new technological innovation, if at all. When my daughter had first told me about the app, I had just politely nodded and then mentally dismissed the notion of ever using it, thinking it was just something that teenagers likes to play with, you can imagine my surprise when I found myself hooked to it the span of just one sleepless night.
PART – 3 FOLLOW UPs
Are you wary of trying out new things in life?
I am not at all wary of trying out new things in life. in fact, I think that exploring new activities and pastimes can give rise to new interests and hobbies. Further, when I try out new things I invariably learn new skills and expand my own horizons. Trying out new things keeps me entertained, young at heart, and updated with new international trends. When I learn something new, I feel more confident about myself, and there is a satisfaction that comes from understanding new concepts and acquiring new technical skills.
Who inspires you most to try unusual/interesting things?
Young people and teenagers around me inspire me most to try and try unusual/interesting things. Teenagers are the risk takers, innovators, and adopters of new products and technologies in any society. They are the first try out new technologies, new inventions, and upcoming fashion trends. When I speak to them or see them exploring something interesting or unusual, I automatically feel the urge to go and seek more information from them regarding what they are doing. They inspire me to step out of my routine chores from time to time, to keep myself entertained.
Can unusual activities be dangerous?
Sometimes certain unusual activities can be dangerous, if not practiced carefully. Some unusual pastimes such as motorbike and car stunts can be life threatening even if all the necessary precautions are taken. Then there are other current unusual activities such as getting permanent tattoos, which may not necessarily be dangerous, but can have far reaching consequences that one needs to live with, long after the activity has been completed. Activities like trying out new software, applications, and games are not exactly dangerous, but are often highly addictive. Some of these involve taking a lot of personal pictures constantly, which can induce narcissism or self-esteem issues.
