IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Ranisha Daman.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Ranisha.

May I see your identification?

Sure, here you go.

Do you have many friends? Why? Why not?

As I’ve already said, I had many friends when I was in my high school. But these days I have comparatively fewer close friends.

What do you usually do with your friends?

I enjoy playing outdoor games, watching movies in a theatre, having conversations related to recent political and international issues, sharing my updates and concerns, going long drive with my friends. The best part is the open conversation we can have related to almost any topic.

Are friends as important to you as your family?

To me, my family is more important. However, this does not make my friends less important to me. Naturally, family comes first for almost everybody and then the friendship. I am no exception.

Do you prefer one or two close friends or many friends?

When I was in my early teens, I preferred many friends but nowadays I have few friends but they are very close to me. So I would say, I prefer having few close friends than having too many ordinary friends.

What do you expect from a good friend?

Well, that’s a tough question! Not that I have not thought about it, but I have never drawn a solid conclusion about it! Umm, my expectation from a good friend is that he would be a good companion, good listener, would criticise me whenever needed, would be supportive and positive. He must be honest and would have a sense of humour. Finally, I expect him to be more like a family member than an outsider.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe a live sports match that you have watched.

You should say:

– What was it?

– When you watched it?

– What it was like?

– and explain how do you feel about it.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Well, most of the time I do watch cricket matches on Television with comfort at home. However, there are a couple of matches for which I went to stadiums to watch. Those live cricket matches were played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the main reason to watch those matches is these were World cup matches and in my city.

The last live match I watched in 2019, and I remember that the match was between India and New Zealand. It was Sunday and the stadium was packed with cricket loves. It was a Day-Night match that started around 8:00 pm. I had bought enough food to eat.

As the match was between India and New Zealand, the majority of supports were Indian. In India’s inning, they manage to score around 280 runs in 50 overs and give a target of 281 to win for New Zealanders. The match becomes exciting when there was only 6 run needed for New Zealand to win from 4 balls. This situation put pressure on both teams. In the end, India wins the match.

Well, of course as the match won by India, it was worth watching a live match. The icing of the cake was that my favorite player Sachin awarded as the man of the match. So, this live match I will never forget in my life.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Why are some sports fans so passionate?

A: I think that they really connect with the sport and their hometown, so it has a special meaning for them. I know that in my home city, the people who live there are so supportive of the football team and they have a huge following. They are so proud of the team and love the fact that they are ambassadors for the city, representing it on an international level.

Is there any violence at sporting events in your country?

Unfortunately, there is, and there now has to be a heavy police presence at most football games. The worst cases in the past have been the home games, when the neighbouring city rivals play and the fans want to cause trouble, by fighting and causing harm to city property. The police deploy the horse guards to keep the peace and sometimes send in the armed police if things get really bad. I always avoid going into the city if I know there are any football games on that day.

Should athletes be better role models?

I think so yes, many people including children look up to these sports stars and when they do reckless things, it has an impact. For example, if they are seen driving dangerously in their sports cars, then people seem to think this is ok and that other people can act like this. There are good role models there too, for instance, David Beckham does a lot for charity and has a children’s football academy.
