PART 1 – INTRO PART
What is your full name?
I am Radika Paryani.
Are you working or study?
I am student at present.
What are you studying?
This is my last semester in Master of Arts (sociology).
Do you like to send postcard?
Yes, I really like sending postcards especially to my family and friends when I am travelling.
When did you receive your first postcard?
I remember it was a postcard from my cousin who had gone to Germany on an exchange program.
Would you send a postcard instead of an email?
Definitely, I would send a postcard as people would get to know a little bit about the place or the particular country.
Do you have your own health tips? [What are they?]
Yes, I do keep certain things on my mind, such as drinking good amount of water, having proper healthy meals and a little bit of exercise.
What tips do you follow to keep yourself?
I wake up before the sunrise. I start my day with a glass of warm water with one lemon squeezed in and honey. Then I walk for 40 minutes, have a healthy breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner a pauper (=poor person).
Do you keep plants at home?
Yes there are lots of plants at my home. I keep them in the mud pots. They look very beautiful and are soothing to the eyes.
What plant did you grow when you were young?
When I was young I grew a plant known as money plant. I grew it in a glass bottle. Since it is called as money plant I believed that if this plant grows, I will also become rich.
Do you know anything about growing a plant?
Well I am not an expert but I know we have to regularly feed water and manure to the plant and we should keep it in sunlight for it to grow. Sometimes we also have to use insecticides to prevent it from insects.
Do Indian people give plants as gifts?
Yes nowadays Indian people are gifting plants to each other and I believe it is a really good gift. People often gift a small variety of bamboo which can be kept inside homes and offices.

Overall, how would you describe your experience of meeting this new person?
SAMPLE ANSWER:-
Last year, I met an interesting person while travelling from Ahmadabad to Mumbai. I was going to Mumbai for two days to attend a social function, and my wife and daughter had accompanied me. We had a confirmed booking on our seats, and on the berth opposite ours, were two men. Initially, we didn’t talk to each other, as I observed they were busy attending calls. After almost an hour, my daughter started playing in the coach, and she started talking to one of the men.
After a while, I came to know that this name was Vishal, and he lived in the same city as us. Based on his discussions, and reasons for visiting Mumbai, I was able to infer that he was a passionate dog trainer and breeder. I started discussing his hobby with him, and was really surprised at the numerous things I learnt about dog-breeding, various species of dogs, and their typical traits. He had won an award for being the youngest dog breeder, and what was even more amazing was that he had 22 dogs of different breeds. He showed us pictures of his ‘pug’ (the famous Vodafone ad dog), German Shepherd, and Pomeranian, among others.
During our discussion, I noticed that the amount of care and special treatment that he gave to his dogs was as good as one would give to their family members. In today’s world, where we see people betray each other for silly reasons, this young man proved to be a very good example of compassion. He told me that he woke up at 6 am each day, and spent at least 3 hours in the morning with all his pets, so that the loving bond between him and his pets remained intact.
He also gave me his contact detail details and invited me to visit his house to see the dogs. He also promised my daughter that he would get her a puppy. Apart from this, we exchanged information about our families and businesses, too. Finally, our station came, and we departed with pleasant memories, as well as a commitment to stay in touch with each other.

What type of person do you like to talk to – an introvert or an extrovert? Why?
Well, quite obviously, it is difficult to talk at length with introvert because they have a tendency to remain silent and mind their own business, without talking unnecessary. However, there are some people who may be introverted and hesitate in initiating a conversation, but then once they feel comfortable, they open up slowly, and turn out to be surprisingly interesting conversationalists, who can have fruitful discussions even with strangers. So, it depends on how different people responds to different conversations. As for me, I didn’t label people as introverts or extroverts, and I don’t frame my discussions accordingly, either.
How do you initiate conversations when you meet strangers?
It depends a lot on the place where we meet, the occasion, and the personality of the stranger in question. If we meet someone in a public transport vehicle during transit, or at a party, or concert or similar crowded public place, I prefer initiating the conversation with a greeting, and then I continue by briefing introducing myself to them. Once these formalities are taken care of, I start my discussion based on what feels suitable to the occasion and venue we are it.
How safe is it in your country to talk to strangers in public transport?
Again, it depends on the mode of transport we have chosen to travel by. Talking to a stranger can be safer in a plane or in a first class air conditioned railway coach. However if we are travelling in a bus or a general coach in a train, we are likely to find people from various socio economic classes, with different mentalities travelling together. Talking to strangers in such situations can be risky.
