Since how long have you been living in your hometown?
I have been living in my hometown since my birth. This has been my abode all through my growing up years. I have completed my schooling and college from here as well.
What would you change in your hometown?
My hometown is in a tier 2 city and is one of the most picturesque towns of this country. It is dotted with tall pines, deodars and rare flowers. However, recent unplanned haphazard construction is fast depleting the natural flora and fauna. I would definitely like to change this aspect and seek the attention of town planners towards this growing menace.

Do you remember your first teacher in your primary school?
Yes I fondly remember my first teacher in primary school. As a kindergarten student I studied in a small playschool. The headmistress of this school Ms. Haque was my first teacher. She was a loving and caring person and taught us the first lessons. I always recall her happy smiling face.
Who was your favourite teacher?
I would say my first teacher and the teacher who taught me mathematics in my later years. Maths was never my strong point, but he managed to teach me the nuances of the subject. In my boards I scored beyond my expectations. Whatever Maths I know today is solely because of his untiring efforts.

Have you ever dreamt about learning languages in your childhood?
I have always dreamt of learning more than just my mother tongue. From early childhood I had realised that language can break boundaries and help us in understanding the diverse ethnic communities – their culture, traditions, food and art. Now whenever I get an opportunity, I try to pick up words of other languages.
What languages did you learn in your school?
While in school the medium of instruction was English so we had to learn the English language. Other than that I also studied Hindi and Sanskrit. Also I picked up French as we had to opt for one other foreign language.

Have you ever dreamt about being a teacher in your childhood? If so, why?
Like most other children I too loved to role play the part of a teacher. I always liked the fact that the teacher had a certain authoritative quality and how it was compulsory for all children to listen and comply with her instructions. So often I would put on a pair of spectacles and play the part of a teacher with my friends during playtime.

IELTS Speaking Interview
I remember when I was in college, my juniors were assigned a project where they had to do an analysis on the basis of a certain survey they had to conduct. The survey was related to the development of our college and we being the students of the same college knew what improvements could be made so that it is for the good of all students and staff.
It had questions pertaining to the hygiene level of canteen, cleanliness, college societies, fests, quality of furniture, et cetera. In total, there were about 28 questions, out of which approximately 20 questions were objective questions which required us to answer in ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, rest 8 questions were all subjective where we had to give our opinions and viewpoints.

I remember how I spent good amount of time filling this survey because it gave me a feeling of being more responsible towards my college. My opinions were based on my experiences in the college, and I expressed how the college lawn needed maintenance along with the societies being allotted separate rooms so that they could hold their meetings rather than conducting them in the corridor where there is a lot of disturbance. I also gave my opinions on other related questions asked in the questionnaire.
I really felt very nice after giving my opinions about this as it gave me a feeling of self-satisfaction that I was contributing towards the development of something good. I could voice my opinions for the betterment of my college which made me fully content and satisfied.

Do you think it would be a good idea for schools to ask students their opinions about lessons?
Yes, feedback is always necessary to improve services, and schools are not an exception. They really need inputs on the teacher’s efforts or capabilities, and students are best to give that input. School administration shall give the opportunity to students to give their comments on the teaching staff. Accordingly, they shall improve the faculty. This will eventually improve the overall quality and success rate of the school.
