IELTS Speaking Interview
Are there many art galleries where you live?
No, not that I know of. I live in a small town so I don’t think there are any, though we do have a few museums and other cultural institutions. In our capital city there are quite a few art galleries, however.
Did you like to go to art galleries when you were a child?
I’ve never been that interested in art to be honest, so not really. We were taken to one as part of a trip when I was at school. It has a lot of paintings from famous artists from our country. It was quite interesting to see I guess but I’ve not been to any since.

Should people have to pay to go to art galleries?
I think it depends really. If possible they should be free because if people do have to pay they are less likely to go and see it. But on the other hand these things cost money so a small fee may be necessary if it can keep the art gallery going and keep it open. Ideally though the government should pay for this as I believe this kind of thing is paid for by our taxes.
Can you swim?
Yes I can. I learnt at school when I was about 7 years old. Swimming lessons were compulsory at our school, like most schools I think.

Are there many places to swim near you?
Yes, there are a few public swimming pools. There is the main indoor one at a big sports complex in the center of town. There are also a couple of outdoor ones, but you can only use them in summer as it is too cold in winter. One is a big one in a park, the other is a much smaller one.
Do you think everyone should learn to swim?
Of course, I think it’s very important. Firstly, you spend much of your life on holiday by water, for example, when you go to the beach on holiday, so you won’t be able to enjoy yourself with your friends if you can’t swim. Also, for safety reasons it’s very important. You often hear about sad accidents involving young children so it’s very important.

SAMPLE ANSWER
Well, the truth is, success never comes easy, at least, for some people – people who are not always as gifted and smart as successful people are. But, still, we try as best as we can to test our limits, just like I did about a decade ago when I tried to learn karate.
Now, I can’t exactly remember what had motivated me to become a “karate champion” back then, but I am assuming that I started to develop a liking for this thing because of watching too many karate and kung fu movies. After all, back then, I was a young, university going student, and I had a lot of energy to spend (or “waste”, depending on how one looks at it).

So, moving the story forward, one day, I asked my parents to give me some money so that I could get enrolled at a karate school in my home town. Initially, my parents were a bit hesitant to give me the money, but they eventually gave in to my insistence and enthusiasm to learn karate.
Thankfully, I got my wish and started to attend karate school every day for the first few weeks. I even learned quite a few basics of karate, but as the practice got a bit more intense, and it demanded more physical involvement, and time from my end, apparently because the instructors there wanted to teach me more advanced things, I started to get disillusioned about my ability, or lack thereof, to become even a simple “karate” learner, let alone a karate expert. So, in the end, I eventually stopped going to the karate school after attending it just for one month.
So, anyway, as I left the karate school, I felt really disappointed about it, to say the least. Besides, I also felt a bit embarrassed about my physical ability which, I thought, was quite good up and until that point. Of course, my only consolation was that I did learn quite a few basic things about karate, and I learned them really well!

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS
What’s your definition of success?
According to me the definition for success is when the result comes out according to our wish, and it brings extreme happiness to us and also to our family members. We should not hesitate about ourselves while in competition, then it brings an excellent outcome to your success.
What things do children try to succeed in?
The major thing is that children would try to succeed in the sports competition.even if it is a small competition they would love to get first place. In their world they taught sports first, studies are secondary. But as a parent we infuse them with an education and not encourage them for sports.
Which do you think is more important for people to become successful, handwork or opportunities?
With my assumption, when it comes to hard work and opportunities,if both are in 100%, then hard words should be important as 75% and opportunities are in 25%. It is because opportunities can open doors for people but the success is based on the hard work of how people did it.
Do you think people would be happier if they didn’t have any goals to achieve?
Life without goals is impossible, though they don’t have any long term goals to achieve, at least they should have short term goals, it brings them a small happiness with their work also it brings some confidence to them to have a long term goals.
