IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You have decided to resign from your work in order to try a new field.

Write a letter of resignation to your boss.

In your letter:

– tell your boss of your decision and explain why you are leaving

– explain what you have learnt from your current job and how you feel about leaving

– ask for a letter of reference

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr Suresh,

I am writing this to you with a heavy heart, to inform you that I consider leaving your esteemed company in searching for a new territory to grow in.

To begin with, let me explain my reasons for resigning. Since I graduated in Computer Networks the last month, I considered my options to grow in that field, because it was my dream from the very beginning of my carrier.

Secondly,I am really grateful for what I have learned from this division, because, this is the place where I learned about the basics of transmission. Honestly, I enjoyed every moment of working here, especially under your guidance. It is really hard to leave here, as it has been my second home for the last 5 years.

Thirdly,I would appreciate it if you can provide me with a letter of reference since it will be useful for my future opportunities.

Finally,I wish the XYZ family all the very best in its future endeavours. Hope our lines cross again.
