IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You were late for a meeting today due to some unavoidable circumstances. Write a letter to your manager apologising for being late.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear John Mattews

This is to express my apologies for being late to today’s meeting at 12.30 pm. I have stuck in a traffic jam on newton street which is 5 miles away from our office as two cars collided with each other. The traffic was halted because of this.

Furthermore, The traffic police have taken almost one and a half hours to clear the traffic congestion at the accident spot. Because of ,this I have to take an alternative route to reach the office. On normal days traffic on the alternative routes is less .Whereas today it is jammed due to lots of vehicles trying to use it.

Therefore I reached the office around 1.00 clock pm and missed 30 minutes of the meeting. I am apologising again and promise you that such things will not happen again . From today onwards I will come early to office . I will make sure that I will not get stuck in traffic again.
