IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

Write a letter to your friend about missing the date with him on a day because you have planned. Tell him how you tried to contact him but it did not work out either.

In your letter, you should tell:

– what the reason is

– how you tried to contact him

– give an alternative plan to meet him sometime.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Anmol,

I hope this letter finds you in the pink of your health. I really apologize that I missed our last movie night that we both were excited about. I’m finally putting pen to paper to explain the reason.

To be honest, it was my most awaited evening plan in months but all of sudden on the same day I was informed at the end moment about a quick meeting with our CEO. As you know, these quick meetings are never quick. It really went on for 2 hours and as it was with the CEO, I couldn’t even use my phone to inform you.

However, as I was using my laptop during that meeting, I tried contacting you by email but I guess you didn’t check my email at that time. After all the haywire, when I finally got free your number was out of reach. Believe me, I tried it so many times.

Anyways, I’m really sorry and I want to make it right. How about watching Tom and Jerry movie on upcoming Saturday at 7 pm?

I hope you forgive me.
