IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

A foreign friend of yours plans to visit your place and stay with you, but you do not have time on that date. Give your friend another alternate date to come.

In your letter, you should

– apologise for it

– explain how you will be busy on that date

– suggest to him/her an alternate time to come.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Alex,

I hope you are doing fine. It’s been a while since we last talked over the phone. But, I was over the moon when I received news about your plans to visit India in two weeks.

As excited as I sound, I also feel terrible to write that I am not available around those dates and I really apologize for that. Since I am visiting my mother on 20th January, I will not be in town when you arrive. My mother is not doing well and hence, I am planning to stay with her for two weeks and look after her.

I would really appreciate it if you could adjust your arrival schedule somewhere in mid of February so that we can stay together and visit all the splendid places that I told you about.

Let me know if you would like to change the dates I suggested. I hope to see you soon.
