IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You have been living in a rented apartment for the last two years. Your rental agreement will expire in two months, but you want to extend it for another two years.

Write a letter to the rental agency. In your letter,

– introduce yourself

– say why you want to extend the contract

– mention what changes you would recommend in the contract

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Kochi Phillips, and I live on the south block of your apartment complex. My apartment number is 331, and I live on the second floor. Now, I will tell you why I am exactly writing this letter.

Well, I am writing this letter because my rental agreement is about to expire after two months, and I need to extend it for another two years unless, of course, you already have made a commitment to another person. By the way, I want to renew the lease for another two years, primarily because the project, on which I was working, has been extended for a few more years.

Besides, I also have started to have a liking for this place since it has such a nice, cool and calm atmosphere all around it, and since most of the residents, living here, are very friendly for the most part.

But before renewing my lease, please remember to include the following things in my lease: one, I will need two parking spaces instead of just one. Second, I am not going to use the mailbox facility of your apartment anymore.

Yours faithfully,

Kochi Phillips
