IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You need to take leave from your work of over one month for personal reasons. Write a letter to your boss. In your letter:

– explain the reason for the leave and the length of leave you need

– explain how you will keep up-to-date while you’re away

– suggest how your work could be covered while you are away

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir,

With due respect, I am Pradeep Goel working in the marketing department of your company with my ID No. MS 205, writing this letter pertaining to my sister’s wedding ceremony. I would like to inform you here that my sister’s marriage is going to be held next month. I will have to join my family for this very important and happy occasion in life. I would like to write this letter as a sincere request to grant me a leave of absence for one month from my work for personal reasons.

My sister’s marriage is going to be celebrated on 14th July 2022. Like her elder brother, I will have a lot of responsibilities in making arrangements for the marriage. I will have to take care of all the arrangements concerning the marriage and other functions’ presiding matters. If possible, I would like to leave work on the 1st of June and be back on the 31st of July. I will resume my work on the 1st of August. This will let me help my family with weddings and other important arrangements.

I have been doing online work since the Covid pandemic for two hours every evening. I could do the same from home in my town also. Every day I will sort out problems concerning my work and subsequently send you the updated google sheets and their pdf files through Whatsapp. If there are any queries and other issues I will contact our team for assistance through Whatsapp and email. But, a total leave would be required in the week of the wedding. I assure you that I will work even on the weekends as well after I come back from home to compensate for the holidays and work and finish all the pending tasks without much delay.

So I just need your approval to take one month of holiday leave from the 1st of June to the 31st of July to attend my sister’s marriage function. I hope that you will approve this holiday leave application.
