You go on holidays and stay at a hotel. After you arrive home, you realize you have left your watch in your hotel room.
Write a letter to the hotel. In your letter:
• describe the watch and say exactly where you left it
• suggest how it could be returned to you
• offer to pay for the return of the watch
SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Sir or Madam,
I stayed in your hotel between June 6 and 8 in room 348. I checked out yesterday, but I left my silver Seiko men’s watch in the hotel room. It was next to the basin in the bathroom. I remember because I removed it to have a shower. The watch is quite valuable and I would like to have it returned to me.
Has it been handed in by the cleaning staff? I am very keen to have it returned as it was left to me by my grandfather, and so in addition to its monetary value, it has great sentimental value to me.
Can I ask that it be returned to me either by courier or registered post? Of course, I would cover any of the costs. If you would like me to arrange a courier directly, I can do that. I just require a contact name in reception and a date and time when it would be available to be collected by the courier.
I would be most grateful if you could contact me by email or telephone to put my mind at rest that it has been found, and to arrange its return. I look forward to hearing from you.
