Your landlord is asking to increase the rent. Write a letter to him.
In your letter, you should tell:
– why you think the rent shouldn’t be increased
– what you will do if it is increased.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Mr. Singh,
I’ve just moved into your house and your rent increment intimation is quite a surprise to me. I do agree that your house is in the central location and is maintained in good condition. But I’d also like to let you know that I have enquired about some nearby houses and found that they are rented at a lesser rate for the same facilities.
My wife has recently delivered a baby and is on maternity leave. So we will take some time to settle down and manage our expenditure. If you agree to continue with the current amount, we would like to renew our lease for another 1 year. We have also been very prompt in paying our rent. I would like you to consider all these factors and re-think on your decision.
Despite all these reasons, if you are stubborn on increasing the rent, we have no option, but to vacate.
