SAMPLE ANSWER:-
Dear John,
This is Gary, I’m sorry to have to write to you, but I seem to have lost your phone number and email address!
As you may remember, when I saw you last month, you lent me your electric lawn mower. Thank you so much for this, I have finally got around to mowing my lawn and it did a fantastic job.
Unfortunately, when I had finished cutting the grass, I was wheeling your mower back to my shed while it was still running and I cut through the electric cable. I had a loot at the cable and, in my opinion, it cannot be fixed. I am so sorry.
I will take the lawn mower to the dealer in town on Saturday and try to get a replacement cable for the mower. I am confident this will be possible, but, if it isn’t, I will buy you a replacement mower and bring it round to your house in the afternoon.
Once again, I’m really very sorry to have damaged the cable, but I hope to have the problem fixed by the end of this Saturday.
All the best,
Gary
