You have heard that the local authority is planning to build a shopping mall in the centre of your town.
You do not agree with this decision because there are already a lot of shops.
Write a letter to the planning department.
In your letter
– Say why you are writing
– give reasons for your objections
– explain what you think would be a better alternative
SAMPLE ANSWER:-
Dear Sir or Madam
I read in the local paper that you are planning to build a shopping mall in the centre of town. I want to express my opinion and for others that this is a very bad decision.
It seems to me that there are already too many shops to choose from. Some are already complaining that their trade has fallen and they may have to close. So why build more?
Our town lacks leisure areas. Therefore, this should be the focus when making decisions. Wouldn’t it be a better idea to create a leisure centre on the south side of town where the old industrial area used to be? There are many old buildings, which could be either taken down or rebuilt, and other areas which would be perfect for a park. Families could make use of this area in their spare time and enjoy the more natural environment it offers: there is a demand for this.
