IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You live near a recreation ground. A local school often brings pupils to the recreation ground to do sports, such as football and cricket, but recently this has caused some problems. Write a letter to the head of the school. In your letter:

– explain why you enjoy living by the recreation ground

– describe the recent problems at the recreation ground

– say what you think the school should do

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my concern regarding the use of the recreation ground near my home by your school.

As a local resident, I truly enjoy living by the recreation ground. It provides a peaceful, green space where families can relax, children play, and people enjoy walking or jogging in a safe environment.

However, in recent weeks, I have noticed several issues during your pupils’ sports sessions. There has been excessive noise, especially shouting and loud whistles, which disrupts the peace of the neighbourhood. Additionally, litter such as plastic bottles and snack wrappers is often left behind, spoiling the area’s cleanliness.

I understand the value of outdoor activities for students, but I kindly request that staff supervising the students ensure they behave considerately. It would also be appreciated if they could clean up after the sessions.
