IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You have received a job offer for an exciting, new position. Although you are expected to start on September 7th, you are only available to start a week later due to personal reasons.

Write a letter to your new boss. In your letter:

– Express your enthusiasm for the job offer

– Explain the problem

– Suggest what you can do

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Ms. McIlwain,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the job offer and the exciting opportunity to join your team. I am truly enthusiastic about the role and look forward to contributing to the success of the company with my skills and experience.

However, I would like to inform you of a slight issue with the proposed start date of September 7th. Due to some personal commitments, I will be unable to begin on that day. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I would like to propose an alternate start date of September 14th, which would allow me to fully address my personal obligations while ensuring that I am fully prepared to contribute to the team.

I hope this new arrangement will be acceptable, and I am more than happy to discuss any further details or adjustments needed. Thank you once again for this incredible opportunity, and I look forward to joining the team soon.
