IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

For the past year, you have been a member of a local club. Now you want to end your membership.

Write a letter to the club secretary. In your letter:

-state what type of membership you have

-give details of how you have benefited from the club

-explain why you want to leave

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr. Sharma,

I am writing to inform you that I would like to end my membership at the Green Valley Sports Club, which I have held for the past year as a full annual member.

Being part of the club has been a truly rewarding experience. I have greatly benefited from the excellent fitness facilities and the yoga classes, which have helped me improve my overall health. Moreover, I have enjoyed meeting new people and taking part in the weekend tournaments, which made my weekends more enjoyable.

Unfortunately, due to my recent relocation to another part of the city, it has become difficult for me to continue attending the club regularly. Therefore, I have decided to discontinue my membership from the end of this month.

I would be grateful if you could confirm the cancellation and let me know if there are any formalities I need to complete. Thank you once again for your support and the wonderful experiences over the past year.
