IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

you live in a room in college which you share with another student. You find it very difficult to work there because he or she always has friends visiting. They have parties in the room and sometimes borrow your things without asking you. Write a letter to the Accommodation Officer at the college and ask for a new room next term. You would prefer a single room. Explain your reasons.I kindly request to be moved to a single bedroom next term.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Accommodation Officer,

I hope This letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you of the difficulties I am currently experiencing with my roommate and to request a single room for the next term.

My name is Fagbenro Adekunbi Amaka, and I am a Data Analyst residing at 22 Pavilion Suite with my roommate, Josh. The apartment itself is an excellent place to live, with a pleasant view of the ocean and close proximity to the train station. Unfortunately, the behaviour of my flatmate has made the living conditions very challenging.

Josh frequently invites guests late at night, which results in loud noise that disturbs my work and affects my productivity.

In addition, he often organises parties where there is loud music, smoking, and drug use, which makes it extremely difficult for me to concentrate. More seriously, he has on several occasions used my belongings without permission. For example, last Wednesday he took my laptop to a friend’s house, which caused me to lose an important client and nearly put my job at risk.

I have tried different measures to address the issue, such as wearing earplugs, speaking with him directly, and keeping my door locked, but none of these have resolved the problem. For these reasons, I kindly request to be moved to a single room next term.

I strongly believe that a private room would provide me with the necessary privacy, security, and peace of mind to focus on both my work and personal life. I would be very grateful if you could consider my request and arrange suitable accommodation for me.
