IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You had registered for a weekend cooking workshop in another city but now cannot attend due to a family emergency. Write a letter to the organiser.

In your letter:

– Apologise for the inconvenience caused

– Request to transfer your registration to another date or get a refund

– Explain why you cannot attend the scheduled session

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I will be unable to attend the weekend cooking workshop scheduled for this Saturday in Delhi, for which I had registered last week.

I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Unfortunately, a family emergency has arisen, and I need to travel urgently to my hometown to support a close relative who has been hospitalised. Given the unexpected nature of the situation, attending the workshop is not possible.

I would be grateful if you could either transfer my registration to a future workshop date or issue a refund, if possible. I was very much looking forward to attending the session and enhancing my culinary skills, and I hope to participate at a later time when circumstances permit.

Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
