IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1
You planned an outdoor event based on a weather forecast, but the forecast was wrong and your event was ruined.
Write a letter to the weather forecasting agency. In your letter:
– Describe the event and what happened
– Explain why the inaccurate forecast caused problems
– Suggest how their service could be improved
SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my disappointment regarding an inaccurate weather forecast published on your website on July 10th. Based on your prediction of clear skies, I planned a community picnic at Central Park that same afternoon.
Unfortunately, the weather turned out to be completely different. Heavy rain began around noon and continued for several hours. The sudden downpour not only disrupted the event but also damaged equipment, including food stalls and audio systems. Many attendees, including families with young children, were left stranded without proper shelter.
Had your forecast been more accurate, we would have rescheduled the event or arranged for cover. I suggest that your agency invest in more advanced forecasting tools and update predictions more frequently, especially during the monsoon season.
Accurate forecasts are vital for public planning, and I hope you will take this issue seriously.
Yours faithfully,
