IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You and your neighbour share a fence that has recently been damaged.

Write a letter to your neighbour. In your letter:

– Describe the damage to the fence

– Suggest what should be done about it

– Propose a time to discuss it further

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Mr. J,

I hope you are doing well. I’m writing regarding the wooden fence that we share between our properties. As you might have noticed, the recent storm caused significant damage—several panels are broken, and part of the fence is leaning dangerously.

Given that this fence separates our gardens, I believe it’s important we get it repaired as soon as possible to maintain both privacy and safety. I suggest we hire a local fencing contractor to replace the damaged sections and reinforce the base to prevent future issues.

Would you be available this weekend to discuss the options and share the costs? I’m free Saturday morning after 10 a.m. or Sunday afternoon. Please let me know what suits you best.
