IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

A local college is having an international day. You want to speak about your country to students from different cultures.

Write a letter to the college head. In your letter:

– Tell him/her about the topics that you are going to talk about

– Explain why would they be of interest to the students

– Ask about any arrangements that you need to make to give the talk

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in giving a talk about my home country, India, during the upcoming International Day at your college.

In my presentation, I plan to cover three main topics: India’s diverse cultural traditions, popular festivals such as Diwali and Holi, and the importance of family and community in everyday life. I believe these subjects will offer students a unique insight into the values and customs of Indian society.

These topics would be especially engaging for students from different cultures, as they promote cross-cultural understanding and encourage dialogue. Learning about other traditions can help foster respect and appreciation among diverse groups.

Kindly let me know if there are any specific arrangements I need to make in advance, such as booking a presentation room or providing any materials.
