IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

Your sister has asked you to organize the music for her wedding at the end of next month. Write a letter to your friend who is an amateur musician. In your letter

● ask your friend to perform at the wedding

● describe why he/she would be suitable for this event

● explain how your friend will be compensated if they agree.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear J,

I hope you are doing well as I write this. Our last conversation was quite some time ago. Just a brief update on my life: my sister is getting married next month, and she has tasked me with planning the wedding’s musical selection. Since you are fully aware of my sister’s intense passion for classical Indian dance, I am going to ask you for a very major favor now. On the night of her Sangeet, could you perform? Please! Please! She won’t be prepared for this at all, so it will be a total surprise to her.

The fact that you are the greatest is the only justification for selecting you. I vividly recall my sister telling me once how much she admires you for pursuing your love of dancing and turning it into a lucrative career.

I would like to cover all of your costs, from tickets to housing, if you accept the performance—which I sincerely hope you do.

And we’re definitely not fighting over this one. Awaiting your response.
