IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1
Your local council has asked locals for some suggestions on how to keep the city safer. Write a letter to the council. In the letter, you should: explain
– what the council can do
– what the people can do
– tell how the community will benefit by keeping the city safe.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to offer some suggestions on how we can make our city safer. I believe that both the council and local residents have important roles to play in this effort.
Firstly, the council could increase street lighting in poorly lit areas, especially near parks and public spaces, as well as install more CCTV cameras in high-risk locations. Additionally, improving public transportation options would reduce the need for people to walk alone at night. Increasing police patrols during peak hours would also reassure the public.
On the part of the community, we can help by staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities. Neighbors can also form watch groups, creating a sense of shared responsibility for local safety.
By working together, we can significantly reduce crime and create a safer, more welcoming environment. This would encourage more people to engage with their community, leading to a stronger, more connected city.
Yours sincerely,
