IELTS GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You are going to visit Australia for an ‘English and Homestay’ program. You have just received details of your homestay host family.

Write your first letter to the family. In your letter,

– introduce yourself

– ask the family some questions to get information that is important to you

– to tell the family about your arrival date and time

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to thank you for accepting to accommodate me as my homestay host during my stay in Australia for my program.

My name is Rishi Gandhi, I am the first in a family of three, and I am a big fan of football. I have just completed my degree in Business Law and I will be studying for my MBA at Adelaide College. Hence the reason for my homestay.

I want to know what you do and don’t in your family. I also want to enquire about the members of your family, how I should relate to them, what you love to do in your family, and most importantly suggest mehow should I enjoy my stay in Australia.

I will be leaving for Australia on the 1st of August on a British Airways Flight at 8:00 am and will arrive at Adelaide Airport at 6:24 pm on the same day. The airport pickup service will pick me up at the airport and bring me directly to your house.

I am looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon.
