This festival usually falls in the month of October or in the beginning of November. It is celebrated with great pomp and show. It marks the happy memories of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya, after fourteen years of exile. People start cleaning their houses, shops and business establishments long before the festival. They decorate the houses and shops with pictures and toys. All the buildings are illuminated on this day. People dress themselves in gay and colouful clothes.
