Learn kitesurfing with The Kitesurf Centre at Camber Sands
Kitesurfing is a wind-powered watersport using a kite and a board. Although the word surfing is part of the name, suggesting a need for rough seas, calm water is perfect as it makes it easier to take off and land.
Being a new sport, kitesurfing takes its ideas from other sports, such as wakeboarding and powerkiting, and there is a lot of crossover. This allows you to pick up kitesurfing quickly and also improve on your other sport(s).
Kitesurfing has a lot of benefits healthwise as you use your whole body. Your legs are used to control the board and push against the power of the kite, while your upper body is used to hold onto the kite and keep your balance.
Even the largest kites pack up to fit in a rucksack and the boards are also relatively short, so there is no need to invest in a van to fit all your new kit in. The overall cost of the sport is relatively low as well, as once you’ve bought the kite and board, there’s nothing left to pay for… the wind is free!
Each course has a maximum of four students per instructor and safety is the primary concern. The lesson durations are rough guides and the courses often overrun – we only finish when you’ve had a fun session and a good go at everything.
Our one-day kitesurfing course is aimed at complete beginners and is a great introduction to the sport. Initially, you learn the basics and kite control, while covering safety, location assessments, and kite set ups, then move into the water. The course is 90% practical and brilliant fun!
We also offer more advanced sessions. Have you ever found that you come back from a session having just cruised up and down without trying out anything new? With an experienced coach by your side to push you and aid your progress, you will improve much more!
