Subject: Insurance for our trip to Manchester
Hi Everyone,
As discussed I’ve done a bit of research into what sort of insurance we need for our trip to Manchester.
As Hong Kong has no reciprocal arrangement with the UK in respect of health care we need to take out travel insurance for medical coverage, as well as coverage for cancellation and belongings. I’ve looked into a number of policies and believe that we should have the following coverage:

Cancellation: I know we have all committed to this trip however there may be some unforeseen circumstances that mean that one, some or all of us have to cancel. We need insurance that will cover any non-refundable deposit and other costs we have paid for should we have to cancel for reasons ‘outside our control’. However insurance to provide cover if we change our mind or our travel plans would be too expensive.
Belongings: Although we are not going to be taking anything that is very valuable I think it is important we include insurance for our belongings. This would cover loss or theft of our everyday belongings. For example the current value of items stolen – although for this you would need to be able to provide receipts. Additionally laptops, tablets and smartphones can be covered as long as they are specifically listed when we take out the policy.

Medical: We need to be covered for a serious illness or an accident while we are away. Also, I think it’s important to include the cost of a flight back to Hong Kong with accompanying medical staff if necessary. However, we will not be able to get insurance cover for all pre-existing medical conditions. So we need to make sure that we check with the company before about any long-term illness or disabilities that any of us have.
Please confirm that you are happy with this and then I can start looking for a good policy for the group – we may be able to get a group discount. Do let me know if you think I’ve left anything out.
Best,
Li
