Winstable Golf Club News

The Winstable Golf Club has opened a second 18 hole course. Now with two courses on the site of the club, we have decided to extend membership to any resident of Winstable who wishes to apply. Membership numbers have been restricted in recent years to allow current members to be able to book times, but now with a new course there is more green time available.

If you have never visited the Winstable Golf Club before, now is the perfect time. For anyone who is considering membership, give us a call and we will arrange to show you around, from the two 18 hole courses, to the clubhouse itself with its new bar and restaurant, as well as our gym facilities, driving range and pro shop with all the equipment you need. Anyone who wishes to see the club is also offered a free half hour on the driving range with our resident golf pro, Mac Rogers, who can help you work on your swing.

Of course, if you don’t wish to become a member yet, you are always welcome to book a round of golf on any week day. Weekends are exclusive to members.

We wish to point out that Winstable Golf Club has a no restriction policy when it comes to mixed or women’s rounds and both courses are open equally to men and women. The clubhouse opened its doors to women as members more than fifty years ago, so we have a long history of equal opportunity.

We also want to encourage younger players to join. We have special family rates for adults and teens and training sessions especially for beginners. We want to get teenagers out on our greens! Players under 18 are welcome to play after school at our lowest green charges.

Winstable Golf Course has gone green! Our new greenkeeper, Tammy Schulman, is dedicated to presenting players with the best golf course in the country, and all that with no pesticides. The new course has been designed to require limited irrigation and sheep are used to keep the grass down in conjunction with our lawnmowers.

See you at the club soon.

Children’s Authors

This year there have been some very interesting children’s books released for all ages.

Marisa Stanley

There’s a bear in my porridge!

Marisa Stanley turns traditional fairy tales upside down by having all the same characters but completely changing the plots and setting them in the present. Kids love these new twists on stories they already know. This is the third in this series for Stanley, and with the last two titles The Girl in the Red Hoodie and Why Cindy took a Pumpkin to the School Dance, being best sellers, this one is certain to do the same.

Simon West

A day in the forest

Winner of the National Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year Award, this beautifully and intricately designed pop-up book is a work of art in itself. All the animals of the forest leap out of the book on every page. The images are accompanied by a heart-warming tale of climate change prevention. This book is quite delicate and very small children should probably be supervised while it is being read.

Virginia Bradden

Are we nearly there?

A funny story about a child being driven to a seaside holiday with his parents. He asks, ‘Are we nearly there?’ on every page. A great book to read to small kids who are about to take a long trip somewhere. The illustrations are lovely and any kid reading this story will be shouting out the catch phrase before every page is turned. This book may become a classic.

Harold Lewis

Lauren Bates, Teenage Detective – Internet Scammer

This is the sixth in the Teenage Detective series by Harold Lewis. This time Lauren and her friends all fall victim to Internet fraud and are desperate to get their money back. The fact that all of them have had a very similar experience makes Lauren think that perhaps the person who is doing this is a bit closer than she had thought. It ends with the usual fabulous twist in the plot as the perpetrator is uncovered. Great writing!
