Dance Instructors
Have you ever thought about becoming a dance teacher? You could at private academics, public schools and even start up your own dance school. Even professionals need to attend classes regularly, so there is always a good supply of student. Dance teachers instruct in a variety of disciplines from classical ballet to modern, jazz, tap and hip hop.
Most dance teachers were once dancers themselves, or still are. The main thing is, you need to be in good physical condition. Gone are the days when dance teachers stood in front of a class and barked out orders. These days, dance students expect to be shown how it is done, especially with some of the more complicated choreography that is around.

Good dance teachers love to dance, but they also love to teach, and being interested in the development of each of your students is an important part of that. The best teachers give their students a lot of choreography to do, not just classes full of exercises culminating in a few recital pieces at the end of the semester. Dance students, particularly younger ones, like to feel that they have learned something that they can take away and perform outside the class or teach to their friends.
The steps towards becoming a dance teacher are quite simple. First, you need to be a trained dancer, which can take between ten and fifteen years, depending in when you start. A dancer’s life is tough. It can be physically stressful and also has very little financial reward, so becoming a dance teacher can be a way of making your years of training pay off. Working with children can be challenging but it can also be rewarding.
To become a dance teacher, you need professional certification. This can be acquired by either completing a Bachelor’s degree in dance or completing a course at a registered private institution. You will learn technical performance and choreography skills. There is also a requirement for practical teaching experience and passing exams in basic knowledge of anatomy, history of dance and movement. A master’s degree will allow you teach at a secondary level, while a decorate or recognized profile as a professional dancer will allow you to teach at even higher levels.
