The two maps below show an island, before and after the construction of some tourist facilities.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SAMPLE ANSWER
The two maps demonstrate the developments that took place on the island of Petrichor in the thirty-year period between 1987 and 2017.
In 1987, Petrichor was a relatively unspoiled, green island with a significant number of trees and a few individual houses in the west. By 2017, however, most of the trees had been cut down except for a small number in the east. Houses in the west were demolished and replaced with blocks of flats, and a shopping centre and hospital were constructed in the southwest. In the north, there were further developments in the form of a large shoe factory and an airport.
The old ruins in the southeast remained untouched, but a few individual houses were built in the vicinity. New bus transport links were also introduced to connect the old ruins, the airport and Petrichor’s city centre to each other, as well as with the shoe factory.
Overall, the two maps suggest that in the given thirty-year period Petrichor underwent a series of drastic changes that not only modernised it, but also industrialised it.
