SAMPLE ANSWER
It is very important to follow strict procedure when investigating a crime scene. The first step is to make sure all people have been removed from the scene and there is security. Crime scene tape should be placed around the perimeter of the scene to block entry. Outside the crime scene, interview any witnesses to the crime, or the people that discovered it. Take complete notes on what the witnesses report.
Previous to entering the crime scene it is imperative to put on a forensic suit, including masks and gloves. Then a written description needs to be made of the crime scene, describing the area, it’s main features and what has been damaged or reported stolen. Before a search is done, the crime scene also needs to be photographed from a number of different angles to ensure that there is enough photographic evidence for later investigation. After that, a hand-drawn sketch should be made of the scene, highlighting any areas of interest.
After all this has been done, it is time to make a thorough search for any evidence that has been left by the criminal and any situation that might not have been noticed during the sketching and photographing stage. Evidence such as items with fingerprints are collected and bagged at this stage and taken back to the police station. Then one last check should be made of the crime scene to make sure absolutely no evidence has been missed. After that, the crime scene can be released by removing the crime scene tape.
