The diagram illustrates the process of photosynthesis, showing how plants produce food and oxygen using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water.

Overall, it is clear that photosynthesis is a natural process in which green plants convert light energy into chemical energy. The process mainly occurs in the leaves, involving the intake of carbon dioxide and water, and the release of oxygen as a by-product.

To begin with, sunlight is absorbed by chlorophyll in the leaves, which gives them their green colour. Carbon dioxide from the air enters the leaf through tiny openings called stomata, while water is absorbed by the roots and transported upward through the stem. Inside the leaf, these elements—water, carbon dioxide, and light energy—combine to produce sugar, which acts as food for the plant.

In the final stage, the oxygen formed during this process exits the leaf through the stomata. Some of the sugar produced is used immediately for energy, while the excess is stored in the roots as starch. Additionally, water vapour is released during transpiration, helping to regulate the plant’s water balance.
