IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1

The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

These maps illustrate the current design of the small city centre called Islip and display the future plan for reconstruction.

Overall, it can be seen that the centre will change a lot through its development.

Some facilities and accommodation areas will be added. For example, there is a countryside on top of the map. It will be removed to make a huge dual carriageway around the centre. Furthermore, the north shops will be demolished and new houses, a car park, a bus station and a shopping centre will be constructed there. Moreover, we can observe a main road between the two shops in centre of the city now. This will be relocated by pedestrians only. Additionally, more new housing will be seen on the left side of the park.

There are some areas, which will remain untouched. For instance, the school in the southwest of the map and the middle shops will exist in the last position. Apart from this, the park, which is in the southeast of the map, will be replaced by the smaller one in the same region.

All in all, it is clear that the centre of the town will develop significantly and people will have access to various facilities in comparison with now.
