SAMPLE ANSWER
The two line graphs illustrate the sources where people in the UK first obtained their world and local news between 1987 and 1997.
For world news, television was the dominant source throughout the period, starting at 65% in 1987, dipping slightly in 1989, then rising to about 71% by the early 1990s, and finally ending at 67% in 1997. Newspapers were the second most common source, with a steady decline from 25% in 1987 to around 20% in 1997. Radio remained the least popular, fluctuating slightly but remaining close to 10%.
In contrast, for local news, newspapers were the main source initially, with 56% in 1987, but this figure dropped significantly to 40% by 1997. Television usage for local news increased markedly from 19% to 37%, showing a growing preference. Radio usage stayed relatively stable, hovering around 10-12%.
Overall, television was the leading source for world news, while local news sources saw a shift from newspapers towards television over the decade.
