The charts show the rates of involvement in teleworking in the UK by age group and the proportion of teleworking in different industries. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
SAMPLE ANSWER
The first chart illustrates teleworking rates among men and women in the United Kingdom from 1997 to 2005. The second chart presents teleworking rates by occupation and work location in 2005.
Overall, men consistently had higher teleworking rates than women throughout the period. The proportion of men teleworking rose steadily from around 5% in 1997 to just over 10% in 2005. In contrast, women started at approximately 2%, increasing gradually to around 6% by 2005.
In terms of occupation in 2005, skilled trades had the highest teleworking rate, close to 17%, followed by managers/senior officials and professionals, both at roughly 11%. Most teleworking across all occupations involved using home as a base rather than working mainly from home. Skilled trades had a particularly high share of this arrangement, while professional occupations showed a more balanced division between the two types.
In summary, teleworking increased steadily, with notable occupational differences in its nature.
