The graph below shows the changes in the number of West Indians and Indians and Pakistanis immigrating to Britain between 1940 and 1970.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The graph illustrates immigration trends of people from the West Indies and India and Pakistan into the U.K. between 1940 and 1970.
From 1940 to around 1954, immigration from both regions remained low, with fewer than 10,000 people entering annually. However, from the mid-1950s onward, the numbers increased notably. Immigration from the West Indies surged dramatically around 1958, peaking at nearly 35,000 in 1961 before falling sharply.
In contrast, immigration from India and Pakistan remained steady until 1959, after which it rose significantly, surpassing 25,000 in the early 1960s. Although there were fluctuations, their numbers stayed relatively high through to 1970, peaking again around 1967.
Overall, while both groups experienced increases, West Indian immigration peaked earlier and declined faster, whereas Indian and Pakistani immigration rose later but remained more stable over time.
