IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1
The table shows the source material on which Hollywood movies were based from 1995 to 2013.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The table illustrates the types of source material used for Hollywood movies between 1995 and 2013, along with the number of films produced, total and average gross income, and market share.
Movies based on original screenplays were the most common, accounting for 4,972 films, with a total gross of $77.5 billion and the highest market share at 47.2%. Despite this, their average gross was relatively low at $15.6 million. In contrast, movies based on theme park rides, though only seven in number, had the highest average gross at $196 million, but the lowest market share of 0.8%.
Films adapted from books or plays also performed well, earning $49.2 billion from 1,087 movies and averaging $116.2 million per film. Remakes, TV-based, and fact-based films contributed moderately to market share, ranging from 5.3% to 6.8%.
Overall, while original screenplays dominated in quantity, adaptations—particularly from books and rides—were far more profitable per film.
