The table compares the number of fatalities and casualties involving four types of transport in the UK in 2014 and 2016.
Overall, motorcycle riders experienced the highest number of both fatalities and casualties in both years, while car drivers had the lowest. The figures for most categories remained relatively stable over the two-year period.
In 2014, there were 117 motorcycle rider fatalities and 1950 casualties, slightly decreasing to 111 deaths and rising to 2008 injuries in 2016. Pedestrians and pedal cyclists also recorded high casualty figures. Pedal cyclists had 1080 injuries in 2014 and 1011 in 2016, with fatalities dropping marginally from 26 to 25. Pedestrian deaths declined from 39 to 35, and casualties dropped from 484 to 443.
Car drivers consistently had the lowest risk, with just 2 fatalities in both years and a slight increase in casualties from 25 to 26.
