IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING TASK 1
The chart compares worldwide production of bicycles and cars over a fifty-year period.

SAMPLE ANSWER
The bar chart illustrates the global production of bicycles and cars from 1950 to 2000 in millions.
Overall, the production of both bicycles and cars increased over the 50-year period. However, bicycle production consistently exceeded that of cars, with the gap widening significantly after 1970.
In 1950, car production was slightly lower than bicycle production, both under 10 million. By 1970, bicycle production rose to around 40 million while car production reached approximately 25 million. The most dramatic increase occurred between 1980 and 2000.
By 1990, bicycle production had reached roughly 120 million, almost double the 60 million cars produced. In 2000, bicycle production peaked at over 200 million, while car production was around 70 million.
In conclusion, although both vehicles saw growth, bicycles were manufactured in far greater numbers, particularly in the latter decades.
