The bar chart illustrates the number of migrants and refugees arriving in Italy, Greece, and Spain between 2014 and 2017.
Overall, Greece experienced a dramatic spike in migration in 2015, while Italy consistently received a steady flow of migrants. Spain had the lowest numbers throughout the four-year period.
In 2014, Italy had the highest number of arrivals at around 170,000, followed by Spain and Greece, each under 100,000. A sharp rise occurred in Greece in 2015, with figures surging to approximately 850,000—far surpassing both Italy and Spain, which remained relatively unchanged.
By 2016, the number of migrants to Greece plummeted, matching Italy at about 180,000. Spain showed a gradual rise but stayed below 100,000. In 2017, all three countries saw declines, with Italy still leading slightly and Spain remaining the lowest.
In summary, while Italy and Spain maintained stable trends, Greece experienced a dramatic but short-lived peak in 2015.
