SAMPLE ANSWER
The line graph illustrates the percentage of Australian exports to Japan, the US, China, and India between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, while exports to Japan showed a steady decline over the period, exports to China increased significantly and eventually became the largest share. The US and India experienced more modest and fluctuating changes.
In 1990, Japan was the dominant export destination, accounting for around 25% of Australian exports. However, this figure dropped consistently to just under 20% in 2000 and fell slightly further to approximately 17% by 2012. In contrast, China’s share rose steadily from about 2% in 1990 to 28% in 2012, overtaking Japan around 2007.
Exports to the US declined gradually from 11% in 1990 to 5% in 2012, with a brief rise around 2000. India saw the smallest share throughout the period, but its percentage grew gradually from 1% in 1990 to a peak of 8% in 2010, before declining slightly by 2012.
