SAMPLE ANSWER
The bar chart illustrates the post-school activities of 1,000 young individuals from 2008 to 2012, divided into three categories: going to university, looking for work, and taking a temporary break from education.
Overall, going to university was the most popular option in all years except 2010 and 2011, when more school leavers were looking for work. The proportion of those taking a temporary break showed a gradual increase over the five-year period.
In 2008, half of the surveyed school leavers (500) went on to university, making it the most common choice that year. Around 300 looked for work, while only 200 opted for a break. By 2009, university attendance decreased slightly to about 400, whereas job-seeking rose to 350, and those taking a break increased to 250.
In 2010 and 2011, looking for work overtook university attendance, with 400 and 380 individuals respectively. During these years, the number of those attending university dropped to around 300–320. The number of students taking a break also climbed steadily, reaching approximately 280 in 2010 and 300 in 2011.
By 2012, the number of university-goers remained at 300, while job seekers were slightly higher at 380. Those taking a break continued to rise, reaching 320—indicating a steady shift in post-school preferences over the years.
