SAMPLE ANSWER
The two line graphs illustrate the percentages and absolute numbers of children (aged 0–14) and young people (aged 15–24) in Australia from 1958 to 2038, including projections beyond the present.
Overall, both age groups have seen a decline in their percentage share of the total population, while their actual numbers have generally increased over the years and are expected to continue rising.
In terms of percentages, the proportion of children aged 0–14 dropped significantly from about 30% in 1958 to around 18% in 2018 and is projected to fall slightly further by 2038. The 15–24 age group followed a similar trend, decreasing from approximately 15% to around 13% during the same period, with a slight projected decline thereafter.
Conversely, the number of individuals in both groups has gradually increased. The 0–14 age group rose from around 2.5 million in 1958 to over 4.5 million by 2018, while the 15–24 group grew from about 1.5 million to just over 3 million, with both groups expected to continue increasing moderately through 2038.
